PROVERBS AND SAYINGS

Proverbs and sayings are indispensable in all languages, they embellish and enrich the vocabulary. However, they usually cannot be translated nor understood literally.
All proverbs are basically sayings, but not all sayings are proverbs.

PROVERB:
A proverb is a short, generally known sentence based on folks wisdom and has a moral component. It contains  an advice, truth or any other universal value in a metaphorical, fixed and memorable form and is handed down from generation to generation.
Ex.:
Where there is smoke, there is fire

SAYING:

A saying is a short expression that is often repeated and has become popular to be often repeated in daily life of common people.
Ex.:
It's a piece of cake
